Long-term relationships. Average length of a Citizen Advocacy Relationship
is 13 years.
Intake procedure is: A total
of 2-5 meetings between Citizen Advocacy Coordinator and individual
who needs an Advocate. Meetings in a diversity of settings (home,
school, workplace, community) and with a diversity of people in
the individual's life (family, friends, neighbors, community members,
support staff).
Target population is: Individuals
with developmental disabilities, all ages (birth and on), living
in Dane County.
Other eligibility
requirements include:
- Developmental Disability - any age
- Living in Dane County
- At risk for social exclusion/isolation
- In need of a Community Partner/Advocate
for advocate, friendship and/or community integration.
Other: Work in collaboration
with many Dane County service agencies, as well as community groups
to recruit individuals with DD in need of an advocate, as well as
community members to serve as citizen Advocates.
